Lemnos island
Hephaestus workshop
Lemnos the island of the God Hephaestus will be a station on your journey, as it was for the Argonauts in their campaign.Located a few miles north of Lesvos, but extremely different. Here you will not find the lush landscape of Lesvos, nor will you meet high mountains.
Here you will find sandy beaches and dunes, a lagoon, a natural SaltLake, crystal clear warm waters, strange geological formations and rocks included within a tranquil landscape. In the East of the island the Alyki, and Chortarolimni constitute a special eco-system which is included as a protected area in the Natura 2000 network. In this area you can observe flamingos and other migratory birds such as lesser Kestrels and partridges. The dunes are a unique and fascinating element of the environment that certainly do not expect to encounter on a Greek island, and look like the Sahara.
In the Castle of the island's capital, Myrina, you'll see small deers descending all the way down to the harbor.
Try the kalathaki cheese and the honey-salted punnet onto fresh bread from grains of the island and in the rusks. In fact, the grain of Lemnos is so well known, that in the period of Byzantium, was the main breadbasket of Constantinople. The wine and the thyme honey are two other well-known products of the island. In the taverns of the island you will find fresh seafood and excellent spaghetti with lobster.
